Sources say KMB will increase the salaries of its drivers and maintenance staff from March 1.

The starting monthly pay for a driver, which is now slightly over HK$11,000, will go up to between HK$15,300 and HK$16,100.

Sources say the firm will also raise the overtime allowance for full-time drivers by 35 percent, to HK$96 per hour.

The company’s service conditions had come under scrutiny after a fatal crash this month in which 19 people were killed.

Critics have said KMB drivers work long shifts without enough rest, putting passengers at risk. Unions also say poor pay is failing to attract fresh talent.
